Writing Quote

Drama is based on the Mistake. I think someone is my friend when he really is my enemy, that I am free to marry a woman when in fact she is my mother, that this person is a chambermaid when it is a young nobleman in disguise, that this well-dressed young man is rich when he is really a penniless adventurer, or that if I do this such and such a result will follow when in fact it results in something very different. All good drama has two movements, first the making of the mistake, then the discovery that it was a mistake. -W.H. Auden

Quietly, one day, the veil will lift from
you eyes. And you will suddenly see yourself
like every tongue-tied lover, every supportive relative,
every ernest friend, has.
You will slowly walk to the mirror,
finally see the stranger you have become, and start to weep.
You will apologize to your reflection,
begging for answers neither of you have.
How did you lose days?
Hours? Years? Friends? Family?
Yourself?
You will mark scars whose stories
you can no longer recall.
You will memorize every brand new
curve of her body and
wonder how you were ever
disgusted by them.
If you’re lucky, then you will be given the chance
to fall in love with yourself all over again.
